Britney Jean Spears, 2000’s America’s greatest single pop asset has been on fire lately. After her devastating setback during her meltdown ten years ago Britney Spears has come out with new music, a new look, and a new lease on life. In Tarzana California 2007, Britney Spears goes into a serious mental break, deciding to go into the nearest barbershop in the sleepy town and asked them to shave off all her hair. The barbers at the time thought they were imagining things, the greatest pop star of the early nineties walking into their shop and asking for the unthinkable.
This set off a chain reaction that implicated Britney as a psycho, a maniac, and cost her her friends, family, and relationships. It took years to come out of the public perception that she was a volatile firebrand that deserved attention only on Perez Hilton and TMZ. Not just a couple of years later, Britney Spears teamed up with famous producer and rapper will.i.am to help with her 2013 album Britney Jean. It was one of her most unsuccessful albums to date and led her on a road of depression and mediocrity. That is until the lead single from Britney Jean got leaked online.
The lead single “Work B****” became a resurgence for Britney Spears and her popularity. It reached #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the greatest dance hits of her wide collection of songs. This and an earlier single in 2011 “Hold It Against Me” has propelled Britney out of the shaved head spotlight that so plagued her in 2007. Despite this she still draws flak from critics for her unimaginative lyrics and barely appealing pop style. Britney’s life revolves around shows in Las Vegas now, and many fans are saying that it's harming her career, not helping.
Vegas it seems is the place celebrities go to die. With Britney Spears making hit and miss albums, it seems like her time is running out, but at what point will she realize? Las Vegas is famous for bringing in hundreds of thousands of young adults from all over the country for Spring Break and yet her sales for her show are getting lower and lower. Does she still have a young audience? Or is she grasping for straws? Only time will tell if Britney Spears has what it takes to become what she needs to be to succeed, a mature powerful vocalist, does she still got it, or is this the final curtain?
